International Congress History, Heritage(s) and Innovation

– gazing at the tourist itineraries between the 19th and the 21st centuries

 

The research centre Economics, Society, Heritage and Innovation - Instituto de História Contemporânea – NOVA FCSH and Câmara Municipal de Cascais are organizing the International Congress History, Heritage(s) and Innovation – gazing at the tourist itineraries between the 19th and the 21st centuries, that will take place on July 16th and 17th at Centro Cultural de Cascais.

 

We invite researchers from different academic areas to participate in a transdisciplinary discussion that among others will focus on different tourist gazes (Urry, 1990) and on the new travelling practices. Possible approaches might be as follows:

  • Can we represent ourselves without the others?, or the (new) contemporary tourist identities,

  • Food history and gastronomic narratives,

  • Ethics and sustainability in contemporary tourism – a need or a strategy?

  • History of tourism,

  • Innovation and tourism: good practices in tourism development,

  • The new tourism heritage representations in the 21st century,

  • Tourism landscapes – tradition vs. modernity.

  • Tourist representations and practices as ideological tools,

  • Tourism and empire(s).

 

Abstract submission | between February 1st and March 15th

  • Presentations should last no more than 15 minutes, and they can be done in Portuguese or in English (no interpretation services available),

  • Send us a 1000-word (maximum) document, Word Format, which includes a summary of your purpose, a title, 3 or 4 keywords and a minimum of 4 references (APA format),

  • Please add your academic affiliation and the link to an updated online CV,

  • Submissions authored by more than 3 people will not be considered,

  • This submission should be sent via ihc.hti.2020@gmail .

 

Proponents will be advised about the result of the double-bling peer review until April 30th.
